Thanks for spending time to read about me.
A weather station is an installation, either on land or at sea, equipped with instruments and tools to measure atmospheric conditions. These measurements provide valuable data for weather forecasting and climate studies. Key observations include temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and precipitation levels.
Wind measurements are taken in areas with minimal obstructions, while temperature and humidity are recorded in environments shielded from direct sunlight. Manual observations are typically made at least once a day, while automated systems record data hourly or more frequently. At sea, weather conditions are monitored by ships and buoys, which also measure additional parameters like sea surface temperature (SST), wave height, and wave period. Drifting weather buoys significantly outnumber their stationary counterparts.
Typical weather stations have the following instruments:
Thermometer for measuring air and sea surface temperature
Hygrometer for measuring humidity
Anemometer for measuring wind speed
Pyranometer for measuring solar radiation
Rain gauge for measuring liquid precipitation over a set period of time.
Wind sock for measuring general wind speed and wind direction
Wind vane, also called a weather vane or a weathercock: it shows which way the wind is blowing.
